The East Kilbride Women’s Section was founded in 2017.  Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, growing into a thriving and inclusive part of our club.

We are proud to offer a welcoming, friendly, supportive and inclusive environment for women and girls of all abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds. Whether you are picking up a bat for the very first time or competing at national level, there is a place for you at East Kilbride.  We believe that cricket is a game for everyone, and we provide a safe and supportive space for girls to learn, grow and excel in the sport.

EK Cricket Club is proud to be represented by Scotland Women’s international and Scotland-A Captain, Nayma Sheikh. 

Zehra Khan

Zehra is a former Hub participant and is now on MCCF’s Coaching Scholarship Programme. She is also a rising star with Cricket Scotland having been selected for the Scotland Emerging Girls team.

Muntaha Maqsood

Muntaha Maqsood is a talented wicketkeeper-batter who plays for East Kilbride Cricket Club.

Our squad ranges from complete beginners to Scotland senior international players, and we are committed to making reasonable adjustments so everyone can participate fully and enjoy the game.

We offer a range of competitive and development opportunities to suit every player.

Women’s Premier League

Format: 40 overs    |    Type: Hardball    |   Teams: 11-a-side    |    Level: Competitive

The National Women’s Premier League runs from May to August, with home and away fixtures. It brings together the top women’s hardball teams in Scotland, featuring players competing at Club, Regional and National levels.

Format: Softball   |   Teams: 6-a-side   |   Type: Indoor & Outdoor   |   Level: Friendly & fun

The Wee Bash is Scotland’s most successful softball competition for women and girls. It focuses on participation, confidence-building and enjoyment, making it ideal for beginners and those looking to progress to hardball cricket.

Format: 20 overs   |   Type: Hardball   |   Teams: 8-a-side   |   Level: Development

The Challenger League bridges the gap between softball and hardball cricket. It provides an excellent opportunity for women and girls to develop skills, gain match experience, and enjoy competitive cricket in a supportive environment.

Format: T20   |   Type: Hardball   |   Teams: 11-a-side   |   Level: National knockout competition

This prestigious knockout competition provides the perfect way to round off the summer hardball season.

Our Head Coach and Head of Women & Girls is Moon Mughis, a passionate coach, innovator, and advocate for women’s and girls’ cricket in Scotland.

Moon is a Lead Girls Coach at the MCC Girls Glasgow Hub, Regional Head Coach (Western Warriors) with Cricket Scotland and recipient of numerous awards, including: BBC Unsung Hero Award, Sport Scotland Club Coach of the Year, Muslim Hero (Muhammad Ali Award), SEMSA Coach of the Year Award & East Kilbride Sports Council Coach of the Year Award.

What began in 2017 with just one girl, her daughter Nayma Sheikh, has grown into a flourishing women’s and girls’ section with now over 20 players, making a real impact locally and nationally.

From a developing squad to title winners, 2024 was a standout year for East Kilbride Women, as the team was crowned Cricket Scotland Challenger League Champions, reflecting years of dedication and progress.
