The Importance of Self-Coaching

I started the season with no batting practice and no physical preparation. In my first two innings, I was bowled out early because I was struggling to pick up the line and length and had a few technical flaws in my setup.

Things changed when I started asking others for feedback. Yash noticed I was moving around too much in my stance. In the next game, Ihtisham who was umpiring pointed out that my front foot was opening up towards cover, and later Arman highlighted that I was looking towards where I wanted to hit the ball instead of watching it closely onto the bat.

Each of these were small corrections, but together they made a huge difference to my batting and confidence.

The reason I am sharing this is to encourage all batters to embrace self-coaching. Don’t be afraid to ask your batting partner, teammates, or even the umpire what they are seeing. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can spot something you can’t, and one small adjustment can make all the difference.

The more we learn from each other, the better we become as individuals and as a team.
