The East Kilbride 1stX1 continued there winning streak in the league, with a dramatic last over victory over Kelburne at Torrance House. With the weather forecast predicting rain, Kelburne won the toss and elected to bat. The ball moved both ways off the seam, but the Kelburne openers punished anything loose and they progressed to 60 without loss. Singh came onto bowl, and an economical spell also saw him break the partnership as Kellett hung on to a sharp catch. A run out from Lightfoot, and excellent catching from Khalid and Bocock helped reduce Kelburne to 105 for 7, but an undefeated 32 from the Kelburne pro took the final score to a competitive 171 for 9 after the 50 overs. The pick of the home bowlers was Lyons with 3 for 41. The rain set in for an hour, and after tea the home side were set a Duckworth Lewis target of 150 to win from 37 overs. All was going well as the opening partnership of Singh and Richardson looked solid to take the score past 50 for no loss. Then a spectacular collapse saw Kelburne fight back and claim 7 quick wickets, to leave the home team in big trouble at 67-7. East Kilbride, however do have depth in the batting department, and with number 9 Lightfoot and and number 10 Richards contributing, the score increased, but when they fell, 30 were still needed. Last man Kellett joined Smith, who was playing a great innings, and they chipped away at the total. With 3 required from the final over, Smith pushed a single to take his score to a high quality and undeafted 49, leaving Kellett to defend the next 3 balls. The fifth ball of the over was then pushed through mid wicket for two, to seal a famous victory. 1 ball to spare, with the final pair at the wicket. Games don't get much closer than that. A second successive victory seeing the team get off to the best possible start to in their first season of national league cricket. Next Saturday sees the team visit Freuchie, as the adventure continues.
