East Kilbride Cricket Club secured promotion to the Scottish National Cricket League with a victory in the play off game versus Strathearn.

East Kilbride Cricket Club secured promotion to the Scottish National Cricket League with a comprehensive 7 wicket victory in the play off game versus Strathearn. The game was played at a sunny Penicuik, on a worn and dry pitch, which was going to get harder to bat on as the day progressed. Strathearn won the toss, and it was no surprise that they elected to take first knock. A tense opening saw East Kilbride pick up an early wicket, which brought Strathearns captain to the crease. He soon took a liking to the pace bowling of Kampman and Richards and after 15 overs the score had progressed to 65 for 2. Richards and Kampman sharing the wickets. At this point East Kilbride got to work by introducing the slow bowlers, and squeezing the game, a familar sight this season. Alum bowled his 10 overs for 20 runs picking up a wicket, and Khalid took 3 for 25. Yet again though the pick of the bowlers was Mahmood who took 3 wickets for a miserly 8 runs in his 8 over spell. Disciplined and organised in the field, the team looked well drilled, and the intensity saw Strathearn eventually all out for 147. After tea, the chase started well, with Kampman and Richardson negotiating the tricky new ball spell. Richardson was eventually done by a ball that popped from a length, but Kampman, playing beautifully straight, continued to build his innings. Alum was run out after a quick fire 23, and top run scorer Khalid was trapped LBW for his first duck of the season. Skipper Saeed however stepped to the crease to partner Kampman and take the team to victory. It was fitting that the inspirational skipper hit the final and winning runs of the season as he finished on 49, with Kampman batting right through unbeaten on 41. The final score of 151-3 achieved with 17 overs to spare. The promotion secured, in a typically assured performance from the 2010 champions.
