Saturday saw East Kilbride entertain Irvine at Torrance house. For the first time in a long while the wicket had to be watered and rolled on lead up to the game due to the brilliant start to the summer.
Captain Moneeb Iqbal is hopefully starting to make a habit of winning the toss, as again he done just that and chucked the visitors out into the field in the scorching afternoon sun.
East Kilbride started positive, boundaries look to be a familiar site in the score book to opener Imran Mughal who fell on 63. Qasim Sheikh, Captain Moneeb Iqbal and youngster Gavin Meikle all forming partnerships together but all falling just short of their half centuries. East Kilbride tail wagged to some effect, all chipping in in some form. Umair Khan let off some fireworks with some huge sixes to bring the home sides total up to 251-9 in their 50 overs.
Irvine’s reply seemed to stutter and stumble however, East Kilbride’s opening bowling attack gave far too many extras which kept Irvine in on the hunt. Wickets falling at regular intervals thought halted any sort of fight back. Club all rounder Josh Johnston was the pick of the bowlers finishing with brilliant figures, 4 wickets for just 7 runs in the 5 overs he completed. Stewart Kampman also picking up a tidy 3 for 32. Irvine all out in the 30th over for just 139. All in all a great day for EK in both departments. 3 wins on the bounce and sitting just nicely in the 3rd place. The next 2 games crucial to take poll position, Drumpellier in the coming week and Kelburne the league leaders the following week.
