East Kilbride entertained Partick in the penultimate league game of the season, knowing only a win would keep them in contention for the league title. The toss was won by Partick, who asked the home team to bat first on a wicket that had some dampness, and looked likely to get better for batting as the game progressed. Kampman and Alum, went out to open and grafted away against some tight bowling, building a solid base. The opening partnership bringing 75 runs. Both players getting into the 30's before being dismissed. Another 2 quick wickets however brought Partick back into the game as East Kilbride were struggling at 100-4. Skipper Saeed and senior player Mahmood, both batted patiently to rebuild the innings, and with a flourish from Urqhart in the last 3 overs, the final score was 218-6. This appeared a competitive total, and was built by all the players chipping in, with no one playing the big innings. As the sun came out, the wicket eased but still offered plenty for the bowlers. Kampman bowled a great 8 overs, and was supported by Richards who bowled straight through his 10 overs picking up 1 wicket for 30 runs. At the drinks break, the game was still in the balance with Partick poised to make a push at 90-1. The game changed when Mahmood bowled the Partick number 3, as some tight and efficient fielding from the whole team built the pressure. Mahmood completed his spell taking 3-20 off his 10 overs. When Kellett took a sharp catch to dismiss the Partick number 4, it effectively put the visitors out of the game. Partick finished 60 runs short, but had made the title chasers work hard for the victory. No dropped catches, and disciplined batting, bowling and fielding as a unit being the key to the success. As the players left the field, news filtered through of a Hillhead victory against Prestwick. With Hillhead next weeks visitors now heading the league and East Kilbride second, it is a straight winner takes all game to determine the league champions.
