With Saturdays game washed out, EKCC 1st XI took advantage of the Sunday fixture versus Titwood to keep the pressure on at the top of the table. Rain throughout Saturday and early Sunday morning saw a green pitch and it was no surprise that when Titwood won the toss they asked EK to bat. Early pressure with the new ball, saw Kampman out hooking, Alam bowled by an unplayable delivery, and Kellett sent back LBW. At 50-3 Titwood looked in control of the game. Mahmood elevated to number 5 in the order however rebuilt the innings with some early skillful defence play which took the sting from the Titwood bowling. He departed for a well crafted 65. At the other end Kahlid, was building an innings of the highest quality, with some great play of the front foot. He nullified the bowlers advantage and upped the tempo as his innings progressed. Mid way through the innings he started to dominate, and at the end of the 50 overs EK had scored 278-8 with Khalid finishing unbeaten on 156. The quality of Khalids innings became apparent as Titwood set out to chase the total. No batsman got in, and Kampaman and Saeed took 3 wickets apiece, aided by some good catching by Jack at square leg, and Miekles alert fielding at point. Waquas bowled 8 overs for only 11 runs, and Mahmood completed a 10 over spell taking 2 for 26. Spin partner Kellett picking up a further wicket to reduce Titwood to 123-9. The moment of the day however was reserved for first team stalwart Gareth Urquhart, who was summoned for his first bowl in Divison 1 cricket after 8 years. His first ball, a leg break, landing on the spot, and his second, a googly, pitching off and hitting leg, finishing off the Titwood innings. A comfortable win that will be remembered for the quality of Khalids batting and Urqharts wicket. Next week the team travel to Titwood on Saturday and entertain the Western Academy on Sunday. Both are must win games.
