Galloway vs East Kilbride CC

East Kilbride Cricket Club were on their travels again this weekend looking to maintain their 100% league record for the season, This week Galloway was the venue and despite the glorious sunshine they arrived to find a wicket which was still a bit damp on top, Winning the toss was going to be crucial as everyone agreed that the wicket would only improve for the batsmen as the day went on. Even although East Kilbride were going to have to start the match with only six men as one of their cars was posted missing in the Dumfries countryside they duly won the toss and elected to field first.

Out they set with their six men and incredibly they picked up the wicket of the Galloway Overseas Amateur in second over courtesy of a classy direct hit run out from Joel Richardson, They remaining five players then arrived an normal duties were restored. The bowlers soon got into their rhythm and were beginning to look dangerous. With only two seamers in the team it was up to the spinners to carry the brunt of the hard work in the afternoon sun. Wickets fell at regular intervals and East Kilbride were looking on top, but Galloway battled hard and accelerated the score towards the end of their innings and arguably scored thirty to forty runs more than they should have been allowed. They eventually finished on 174-9 with Umair Saeed being the pick of the bowlers taking 4-23.

By the start of the 2nd Innings the wicket had indeed dried out and was now looking a lot easier to bat on as Alan Meikle & Joel Richardson opened the batting, unfortunately Meikle was soon back in the pavilion via a dubious LBW decision and Mahmood Allam joined Richardson out at the middle, they were soon scoring freely as the Galloway bowlers toiled and Allam raced to 56 before being caught in the covers. Shiraz Khalid came in at number four and he was continuing to show the form that we have seen so far this season. Joel Richardson continued to bat very steadily as Khalid was bludgeoning the ball to all parts of the ground as East Kilbride were well on top. Khalid finished the innings off in style with a huge six straight back over the bowlers head as East Kilbride romped to an eight wicket victory with fifteen overs to spare.

This weekend they should finally get a home fixture played with Irvine being the visitors and on Sunday East Kilbride head to Gala in the SCU Trophy, which is a competition that they have had some good success in in the past few years.
