REPORT BY JOSHUA JOHNSTON
East Kilbride travelled down to Dumfries on Saturday. Ek won the toss and put the home side into bat. Good opening spells from bowlers Stewart Kampman and irfan shah and an equally good start by the Dumfries batsmen. The breakthrough came from shah in the 8th over with the score at 27 for 1. Wickets then fell at regular intervals and EK looked to be in the driving seat. Kampman with figures of 3 wickets for 37 runs was a great display of bowling from the opener. The score at 62 for 5 East Kilbride looked to go in for the kill, but with wayward bowling and lack of discipline In the field Dumfries got themselves back in the game the score now at 190 for 8. Dumfries managing to reach a respectable total of 216. Umair saeed also picking up 3 wickets along the way.
East Kilbride came out full of confidence having chased down totals in ease the previous weeks. However, Gavin Meikle in the first over was out for naught. Kampman and Harmanjit Singh raced along but only managed to reach 42 before the next wicket fell. Again Kampman and Craig smith seemed to pick up runs quickly but to be given out to a very close LBW decision. Runs flowing but also wickets falling at the same rate Kampman, Bocock and Bascome all out for nothing added to the total. The score at 80 for 6 it looked unlikely for EK to chase the total. A last ditch attempt from irfan shah who scored 24 was left with no one to chase with. The last wicket falling with still 20 overs to play and only 92 needed, should have been an easy task with some wickets in hand.
